I admit, I neglect my e-mail sometimes. So, when a giant box showed up on my porch, I was a little confused. Then I opened it. I was SO excited to see TWO K'Nex products inside!! Of course, my kids were even MORE excited!! I decided to actually READ the email I had been sent by K'Nex and guess what, they told me exactly what they were sending! I signed up a few years ago to be a tester for them, but had forgotten all about it. We were completely THRILLED!!!
I let my older two kids (ages 10 and 9) play with the chest of regular, open ended K'Nex first. (Pick up the green treasure chest HERE)
within an hour they had built SO many things!!
I made them wait until Vaughn, their 6 year old brother got home to break out the Mario Layer Cake set (Pick it up HERE!) Now, it says ages 8+ on the box. And for good reason. Vaughn tried for a while to put it together and got easily frustrated. Xander (10), however, had NO problems following the instructions and getting it all put together.
And THEN my kids did something they don't do very often. They all played together!!! And they ALL got along!!
Now, enough about my observations, here's what the KIDS said about it:
Vaughn, age 6. "My favorite one is the one we used to parts from the Mario set to make Waddlewings ship! I got to be Waddlewings!"
Xander, age 10. "My favorite was the Mario set. The reason I like it best is becasue of all the new pieces. Most of those pieces I've never had before. Also, because of how many different K'nex parts that were only made from Mario. The best part was the flag system for when Mario goes in and can get launched. With the other set, I really liked it because you could choose ANYthing. ANd you can use the instructions and make modifications." (Yes, he really used the word modifications)
Juliana, age 9. "My favorite was the big K'Nex chest. I liked it because you could build cars, hot air balloons, horses, LOTS of things- like ANYthing. I did like the Mario because there were characters and there were actually ground boards. You could build it anyway you want. I like to play with them a lot because you can be creative. Sometimes I just don't feel like playing with the Mario set, so I play with the other one. You can choose what to do. You can do anything."
These have brought my kids HOURS of fun. And they have brought me PLENTY of helping hands because you can't go play with the K'Nex until your chores and such are done!! :D
Pretty sure K'Nex Plants Vs Zombies are on our Santa Wish List!! THIS one, to be exact.
NOW.... want a free K'Nex set for YOUR kids?! Comment here and tell me what toy your friend had growing up that you wish you had. I'll pick one lucky reader, contact you (so make sure you leave a way to do that) and get your address to send to the K'Nex people! *one entry per day until Friday 11/21/14 **be sure your comment sent before leaving the blog
Thanks, K'Nex!
My two oldest drew an entire house on a piece of styrofoam. They even had details like the stove burners, toiled flushing handle. It was great!
ReplyDeleteMy son, Mahone has been into legos since he could control his fingers. When he was about 3 years old, he started making "friendships" - he would bring them to me and I'd gush over them even though they looked like a mess of legos just stuck together.
ReplyDeleteIt was cute because he had misunderstood the meaning of friendship and thought it was a ship friends lived in together.
Now, he's 8 and he will occasionally make me a "friendship" as an inside joke. He is a funny kid, and makes me laugh every day.
My kids have made really f n things out of plain white paper. They made a store, the items to sell, price tags, money, and even checks!
ReplyDeleteMy 6yo has been making the most fantastic robots with the Lego WeDo kit this year. It's been awesome. My 11 & 14 yo are fantastic drawers. 11 yo draws pokemon and 14 yo has gotten really good at designing her own manga style characters.
ReplyDeleteMy 6 year old made a hotel with big waffle blocks the other day. She had a front desk, restaurant, pool, bathroom and a room.
ReplyDeleteAll if my kids love creating things with legos. They make working moving tractors, swathers, combines, loaders. They kearney all they can about each machine and build it!
ReplyDeleteMy kids love building things... they are really into putting on plays and have been building play sets. Furniture, cars, people etc.... they will play for hours together perfecting their play and will give the hubby and I a dinner theater production :)
ReplyDeleteRae :)
My kids have done race tracks, ships, and necklaces with our legos and one time built a church from our old community with blocks. (I am LuvstoScrap at SNP)
ReplyDeleteThe kids play with geo trax and I find them building villages all the time. They love having a small village to play in
ReplyDeleteMy kids love creating things, especially our boys. Whether its catapults for the stuffed monkey, complex paper airplanes for the lego men or log cabins out of their green beans at dinner. My favorite though was when they created a wedding for 3yr old Camille and her imaginary boyfriend TotTot. Flowers and all. haha
ReplyDeleteLevi and Levi LOVE their Legos but tend to use cardboard, glue, construction paper etc to make the most interesting planes, boats, etc. it'd be awesome to see what they could do with K'nex!!
ReplyDeleteLast night they used a piece of cardboard for a ramp, boat, tunnel, highway, magic carpet and for a "raft to keep them out of the lava" on their way to Elsa's castle. All the angry birds were on their raft with them. Sadly, Matilda was lost to the lava.
I played with Lego and Lincoln Logs as a kid, and all 5 of my kids LOVE playing with Lego, K'nex, or any other toys that they can really let their imagination go with! It looks like yours had SO much fun with this set!
ReplyDeleteBelieve it or not, I played with Lincoln Logs as a child...that's if I wasn't outside riding my bike and playing with my brothers and sisters.
ReplyDeleteExcuse me if this is already posted...my computer's being weird...Anyway, I was a Barbie girl, but K'nex reminds me of another one of my favorite toys - Tinker Toys! Those things were cool!
ReplyDeleteI played with fisher price little people a lot asa kid. The farm, school, and airport were favorites as well as the parking garage.
ReplyDeleteBarbie!! I loved Barbie. :)
ReplyDeleteOne of my most favorite things to play with when I was a kid was an old cash register we got at DI. Loved playing store with it!
ReplyDeleteI loved my pogo ball!
ReplyDeleteI remeber playing with dolls. Had a million of them. I used to insist everyone come to my tea parties.
ReplyDeleteBooks- as soon as I got a firm grasp on reading, it became all I wanted to do! Then, I discovered cooking, and I'd pretend to play cooking show every time I had opportunity to cook something. I would talk to my imaginary audience and smile cheesily at the imaginary camera. . .yeah. I was cool like that.
ReplyDeleteThe USS Missouri
ReplyDeleteAnother thing I love playing with as a kid was my friends small doll set. It was from the 70s or 80s and seemed so fancy!
ReplyDeleteI also loved playing with paper dolls!
ReplyDeleteGrrrr... My comment from yesterday has disappeared! Anyway...my parents were antique dealers and would often go to estate sales. I must've been around 7 or 8 when they gave me this way cool Barbie RV with TONS of accessories...cars, boats, clothes, camping gear, dozens of dolls... That was way fun!! For years and years!!
ReplyDeleteTinker toys!
ReplyDeleteTinker toys were awesome. Loved them too!
ReplyDeleteI loved playing with Barbie, cabbage patch kids, tinker toys and bristle blocks, my easy bake oven, strawberry shortcake and my little pony. I also love that many of these things have made a come back for my own kids to enjoy!
ReplyDeleteMy kids have fun playing with the expanded lincoln log set my father in law made for my husband when he was little. It has super long "logs" for even more playing fun!
ReplyDeleteMy Scarlet is 6. Her favorite materials are paper and glue. She makes collages and layers paper by gluing it together. It's a huge mess. But she makes the most interesting things. She wants to be an artist when she gets older.
ReplyDeleteWe played with Hot Wheels a lot. Whoever knocked the other person's car off the table "kept" it until all the cars were gone. It was kind of like marbles and destruction derby all rolled into one.
ReplyDeleteA toy I had as a kid and still wish I had was my strawberry shortcake game. Loved the smell!
ReplyDeleteI really want to have my Rainbow Bright doll and the Barbie Dream House
ReplyDeleteI wish I had my little people school.
ReplyDeleteMy daughter has had fun "sewing" clothes for her dolls using staples and paper.
ReplyDeleteEither my troll collection or my Popple - I think my daughter would enjoy my troll collection - and I pretty much just want my Popple back for myself.
ReplyDeleteI always wanted Connect 4 and Perfection - I did buy myself Connect 4 when I grew up - I have yet to buy Perfection - but I will!
ReplyDeleteA toy my friend had as a kid that I wanted was a ride on car, like the Little Tikes Cozy Coupe.
ReplyDeleteMy cousin and I used to love to play bank with my aunt's old deposit slips and address stamp. My aunt really got a kick out of the fact that I worked at a bank for 4 years later as an adult.
ReplyDeleteA Marble run.
ReplyDeleteWe lived out of town so I didn't play with other girls my age... Just my older sister. She had roller skates that I couldn't wait to use y though!!!

Cabbage patch dolls with corn silk hair was something my friends had, but I did not.
ReplyDeleteMy friends mom was super crafty. Always sewing doll clothes and such. She used to sew stuff for us for our bdays.
